ch 1: There is no contradiction with Christ. It is a yes or no situtation. You have light or you don't. We need to realize our sins and confess them, and strive to live always in the light.
I have to do the chapter summaries one by one. That way I can concentrate. ch 2: To love God is to keep his commandments and our greatest commandment is to love our neighbor (Brother). By this we show God. We can not serve two masters, so we concentrate on God and not the world. The world fades, but the word is eternal. We need to abide and confess Christ with confidence.
Ch 3 (1 John) We are not of the world. The world rejected Christ, and thus will reject us. We are to love our brethern. Actions speak louder than words. This is a reoccuring theme similar to what Christ said: (sum up) if you see a brother that is hungary and say "go in peace and be filled" you did not help him. But give him food. Action.
ch 5 (1 John) We need faith to believe, and once we believe we need love to follow. If we truly love and follow God we will obey, and confess His Son. Anything else is from the anti christ. Interesting to note that John does not just speak of the devil, but it seems like anyone not confessing that Christ is the son of God, is the anti christ. Or from him anyway.
