John 10 is one of my favorite chapters when it comes to describing our life on this earth. Read the "scriptures alive" portion this month and let me know one way or another about what you think.
John 14 is another chapter that is filled with information that I believe each of us need to take personal and understand. Try to memorize a few passages from John 14.

John 10
Jesus is the truth, and life. In Him we are eternal. He loves us and takes care of us as a shepherd does his helpless sheep. With out him we are helpless, and hopeless.
Jesus declares that He is God. People want signs (we still do) and God has shown us His power and glory, and yet we still doubt and do not understand. We (as they did) do not see the reality of God that is right in front of us.
John 11
Jesus will wait, and He is patient for God's time in order for God to be glorified. That is a good lesson for us.
Also, though the disciples did not really understand, they were prepared (at this time) to die for/with Him. It is nice to have friends like that.
Martha some what questions Jesus twice. (which we all have a tendency to do) But she knows His power and opts for belief instead of anger and doubt.
People fear losing their power and status and will do what it takes to keep it. But God knows this about men, and works it to his advantage. It is all apart of His plan.
John 12
This chapter foreshadows Christ's death. Mary prepares Him for burial, Judas wants to betray him, the Jews plot to kill Laz to keep people from believing in Him, Christ has a triumphal entry, and the Greeks want to follow him.
Christ tell us He will be glorified with His death, and if you love Him, you will have life eternal. Servants are honored by God. Jesus does begin to worry about the pain of torture and death, but follows the will of God. He is human. I think we all fear pain, and death to some extent. But Christians have the promise of life with Christ, and like Him we conquer death. Though we know this, believe it, and stake our lives on it, we still fear pain, and the process of death.
Men seek the approval of men (or of this world) which is fleeting and we are fickle. But the love and approval of God lasts forever.
Ch 13
Peter is such a great character! He often misunderstands Christs, and acts rashly with passion and conviction often to his folly (and we still do that to this day!) But Peter is passionate and loves God. And he comes into his own. Jesus tells them to love, and Peter, being rash again tells Jesus he would die for Him. Jesus knows that Peter will deny Him. But unlike Judas, Peter repents, and goes on to serve God the remainder of his days, and gains his reward.
Christ even washes Judas's feet. He is the ultimate servant. This chapter shows the power of God. The devil enters Judas with the hopes of conquering God, and Christ over comes. God can use the evil deeds of other to prove His power and glory.
Ch 14
Jesus talks about His return and that He will welcome us when we die. He is the way, and the truth. Still the disciples do not understand, which is great because it helps us understand now. And Christ tells us of the Holy Spirit that will help them (and us) to understand. The mystery has been revealed. The spirit is not for the world, but for those who love Him, and obey him.
ch 15
Warnings!
Vines that do not produce (do not keep His commandments) are thrown into the fire.
We will be pruned, humbled, persecuted, etc. in order to bear more fruit--to trust in God even more.
The peace and joy of God does mean happy easy lives. Christ warns of us of our trials for His sake. Look at Christ and the apostles, they did not have easy lives, it was hard, but they have their reward. Trusting God does not mean everything comes up rosy, it means that we can conquer our trials with Him. So be thankful for the blessing we have! A good warning, and reminder.
